Associate Professor Kim Jee Hyun
(Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Melbourne, Australia)
Kim Jee Hyun is the Head of the Developmental Psychobiology Laboratory at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. Her work focuses on the acquisition and retrieval of fear memories and how that differs across childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Specifically, Prof Kim is interested in how memory and memory decay plays a role in the development of anxiety disorder and substance use disorder across childhood and adolescence. To do so, her laboratory uses a combination of behavioural paradigms, transgenic animal models and molecular/gene assays to identify the mechanisms involved in pathological learning, memory and behaviour to design more effective treatment interventions. Prof Kim is also an active science communicator and a vocal advocate for Women in Science.
